Hello TJ Families,
WHEW, we made it to December! Can you believe this weather?!? It is simply amazing. I hope you are all out there enjoying it and preparing for the TJ Virtual 5K! I know that Mr. Acke and I have been walking to prepare!
We will REMAIN OPEN! While the State of California has issued a Stay at Home Order this will not affect RCSD Schools at this time. We look forward to seeing your STARS on campus tomorrow. With that being said, PLEASE keep your student home if they are not feeling well and follow the community guidelines in regards to gatherings and social distancing. TOGETHER we RISE to keep our schools open!
If your teacher sent a hard copy of the Chromebook Loaner Agreement home please return it to your child's teacher. Please check your email for the Chromebook Loaner Agreement if that is easier. Please note that not every family will receive a new agreement.
Please read further for important information about Thomas Jefferson and RCSD information!
It is a GREAT week to be a TJ Star!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Acke and the TJ Team!
Independent Study
New Independent Study requirements call for the Distance Learning criteria (i.e. live daily interaction, daily participation, weekly engagement record, etc). RCSD will not be offering Independent Study contracts moving forward for the 20-21 school year because of the added requirements.

Annual Household Eligibility Form
The Annual Household Eligibility Form (or Free and Reduced Meal program) is more important than you might think.
The Free Meal Program typically provides assistance to those who qualify, and even though meals are free for all students for this school year, we are asking you to please take a moment and fill out the Annual Household Eligibility Form online at https://www.rcsdk8.org/annual-household-eligibility-form. The application is due by December 15, 2020.
By taking time to fill out this form, it allows our District to potentially capture funds lost by the lack of forms filled out to date. If you have already completed a Meal Application for the 2020-2021 school year, please also complete this form.
The number of students that qualify for the Free and Reduced Meal program impacts many services and programs that RCSD offers families.
Our students and schools are at risk of losing 23% of the supplemental grant funding that supports those programs due to the lack of applications submitted to date.
This 1-minute video explains more about the form and the funding that goes along with this form.
The supplemental grant supports:
Mental & Health Services - help fund school counselors and health aides.
Class size reduction - help fund smaller class sizes in Transitional Kindergarten and 4-5 grades.
Foster youth and homeless services - help fund resources for both foster youth students and students experiencing homelessness.
Music & Elementary PE - funds a portion of the teachers’ salaries for these programs.
AVID and IB programs - help to fund school sites that have AVID and IB programs.
Technology - help to ensure students and staff have internet connectivity.
Intervention Services - help fund staffing for intervention teachers and other intervention support providers.
World Language Program - help fund world language teachers at all four of our middle schools.
We appreciate your time and continued support.
