Happy Labor Day Weekend! It was a GREAT week at Thomas Jefferson. All of our classes are establishing routines, launching units of student on English Language Arts and Math. It has been wonderful to see our classroom communities come together as collaborative learning communities! Please remember that safety is our primary concern. Please abide by the arrival and dismissal guidelines. Please DO NOT park in the loop or leave your car unattended. If you need to leave your car to walk a child to their arrival gate park in a designated parking space. It is also very important that there is NO parking in the RED zones next to and beside the bus loop. The bus needs a clear entry and exit with out any blind spots. If you are using the upper loop please do NOT park on the street and block traffic that is flowing into the loop. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Friday Folders will include order forms and a Central Park Year Long Field Trip Permission Slip. This permission slip will give your child's teacher permission to take your child to the Central Park picnic area and playground, behind the school, for class celebrations and activities.

ALRIGHT TJ STARS! Let's do this...ATTENDANCE MATTERS! Let's shoot for the STARS and have a 100% Attendance day next week where all 494 students are present at schooł!
Our
goal this year is to ensure that every student attends school regularly.
Showing up for school has a huge
impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing
through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families
play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and
understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.
We realize some absences are
unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. But, we also know
that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can
cause them to fall behind academically.
Your child is less likely to succeed if he or she is chronically absent—which
means missing 18 or more days over the course of an entire school year. Research
shows:
- Children chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st
grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd
grade.
- By 6th grade, chronic absence is a
proven early warning sign for students at risk for dropping out of
school.
- By 9th grade good attendance can
predict graduation rates even better than 8th grade test
scores.
Absences can add up
quickly. A child is chronically absent
if he or she misses just two days every month!!
