Hello TJ Stars!
Week Two of Distance Learning is in the books! Thank you so much for all of the hard work that you have dedicated to supporting our Star's learning at home! You are ALL doing an AMAZING job! A huge SHOUT out to you all we know that this is HARD work and we are here to support you!
As you may already know Thomsd Jefferson is a PBIS school, (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports.) The TJ Staff has encouraged your Star to R.I.S.E. at home. Our R.I.S.E. expectations are the foundation of how we learn and lead together at school and in life.
I have noted that many of you are using the RISE expectations at home and that is a wonderful way to create some continuity between the learning at school and the new learning environment at home. Some families have posted the RISE expectations in their homes and in the place where their students are learning.
Our RISE expectations are below:
When it comes to the learning day please know that not all of the work should be done in one sitting, take breaks, head outside for a walk, ride your bikes, and allow your Star to reset if necessary. I know that I have found that the importance of routine is key to success in the Acke household. We are trying very hard to have regular bedtimes and wake-ups plus structured times for studies. We have also found it helpful for our son to have a designated study space that is as free from distractions as possible.
Some families have found that a sticker chart or token economy has been successful in encouraging their students to RISE during work time. At school, we use Star Bucks to acknowledge the expected behaviors and use target talk that describes specific behavior that was observed. If you would like to use Star Bucks at home please click on this Star Bucks LINK to find some.
Thank you for RISING at home we are all in this together and if you need anything please contact your child's teacher or me.
Be well,
Kirsten Acke
